Happy New Year--2009 ?

<<<< here is a pic of me in 1997 with my hand on "The Wall" in D.C. Some of my buddies are on the Wall, and I have been to Wash. D.C. 3 times and still want to go back again-- if I could afford it. I love all the Smithsonian Institutes, Art galleries and I get so worn out walking, but with awe and reverence when I am there. Lots of walking.

I am in a very good mood after taking my wife to get her blood drawn down by Lake Michigan this morning, shopping, getting her new prescriptions and her hair done. The price of dog food has gone up $6 too. Sharon is frying some potatoes and steaks right now at 1:22 aft, and I have not eaten all day. We will prob drink some champagne and kick back tonight but we don't believe in getting drunk... and I can get pretty silly without getting plastered.

A 'nurse' from the Milwaukee VA, called Venita phoned me about a half hour ago to 'reschedule' and push back my knee injections about 3 weeks. At the end of the 90 day window from the last shots I got, it's logical and normal that my knees are aching BIG TIME right about now with my OA--bone on bone, acute arthritis.. and there is nothing cute about it! I had to get very tough with that woman who thinks that we Veterans can just be manhandled and abused at her whim. After I threatened to call the 'Patient Advocate' to ream her out-- she reconsidered and scheduled me for one day latter than what it was originally was, Jan. 7th.
The part that really gets my goat is that you can NEVER really count on the lying, abusive VA to KEEP THEIR PROMISES, take you as they scheduled you, get your medication delivered ON TIME!!
For those of you who are still working... don't think that retirement will be so rosy and care free, with no worries or wrinkles. On the contrary, you have to watch people like a hawk so that they do THEIR jobs the right way and make good on their promises! Sorry.. but that is a 'word to the wise' and the year 2009 will get much worse with more lost freedoms.
So why am I happy today in frosty Wisconsin? I have a woman who just got a $60 hair-do and she is content at the moment..lol. We live in a cozy house that I own with heat and A/C, and I have enough money to pay our bills! Woo Woo!
I heard that the police and highway patrol are out in force to catch DUI's, etc. I also expect to hear abouta few shootings and murders on the TV tomorrow in Milwaukee-- usually on the "North side' of town. I believe in bringing the goodies home where it is safe and comfortable and spending some quality time with my wife.

I bid your all a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
I hope that I am wrong about some of my future predictions for the New Year. I believe in walking softly and carrying a big stick, and a bullet proof pocket bible over my heart with a few $50 bills inside. Go figure: Who in the world is going to rob me of my BIBLE...lol?

Americans being killed by Tire Companies' Lies.

******************************************
THERE IS A SHORT COMMERICAL VIDEO AT THE BEGINNING, LET IT PLAY BEFORE WATCHING THIS IMPORTANT MESSAGE. SHOCKING!!
This is a video of a segment that aired on the well-known ABC TV program, "20/20." Please watch this; and, for Heaven's sake, whatever you do, pass this along to everyone you know! It may save your life, or that of someone you know! Click on the link below. If that doesn't work, copy and paste it into your web browser.
I had never heard of this before. This is worth watching.
Check your tires and read the code on (the inside of) your tires...a worthwhile safety tip
It's stuff like this that I love to EXPOSE and share with my friends ! If that gives me a bad reputation as a 'sour grapes' complainer... oh well... LOL. I feel that I am helping others.
I got really tired of LIES after I got home after the combat in RVN. Tired of main line religion lying to me and watering down the truth of the Gospel [I thought] and not being savvy enough to tell me the simple answers I needed in life. The Gov't and VA certainly LIED to the American people about some aspects of the war in Asia, Agent Orange, PTSD and didn't volunteer much info about our rights to earned benefits we Veterans had coming to us.,, and that is STILL GOING ON WITH THE YOUNGER COMBAT VETS FROM IRAQ! Banks never explained the "Rule of 72" -- the magic of compound interest and the high schools didn't teach us the nuts and bolts of sound finance. Life Insurance companies always hide the truth about the "bundled" mixture of investments and Life insurance.. with their crappy 'Whole Life' , etc, that I learned latter on my own while working for PFS Investments. The Democrats are STILL LYING about how they pushed bad loans to the minorities in the U.S. even though most of those folks didn't have jobs, collateral or means to pay the mortgages... see Barney Franks, under the word Sodomite, or scam artist. And that crap went down under Pres. Clinton's watch, and I bet Mrs. Clinton was smart enough to know about it too!

Well, let us give thanks for what GOOD things we 'still have.' I will attempt to explain a basic 'rule' of mankind, please: When people run out of food and begin to starve-- and have to watch their kids starve [and I have seen it], they get very anxious, angry and violent. They WILL revolt and try to topple the Gov't. FLASH! Word has it that Obama will soon be starting to build huge "camps" to hold many people in the U.S.A. Why? Go Figure: to keep tight control over people who do not want to starve to death, IMHO, and follow "Executive Decisions" that he thinks will have to be made in the near future when things continue to go a rye. There could be all sorts of scenarios leading up to these mean, draconian orders, but I am NOT going to stay up all night worrying about it either. My Faith in God and my Bible knowledge eliminates much of that worry, Praise the Lord.

I am not too much afraid of death-- but I only hope that it will mean something or set a good example for those who remember me. My main concern is that I might yet be seduced by Satan and/ or loose women again to dishonor myself and bring shame on the name, Christian. Some of my friends say, 'Tom, you are a very smart man
!' 'Why do you do such stupid things ??' Well, I should think that I am just a sinful, selfish, weak human sinner, and I have a long memory that keeps on reminding me of my past mistakes. Funny thing.. my infirmities help keep me from sinning more.. and I sometimes wonder if that too is part of 'God's Plan.' I can tell/ share what does help keep me walking straight. It is CONSTANT study/ reading/ sharing the Bible every single day, and meeting on a regular basis with other believers of like Faith ! Garbage in-- Garbage out. You are what you eat. Actually, we eat too good at our house in Wisconsin...LOL. Our dog and fancy cat prob eat better than 1/3 of the people on earth.

I could use some direction now. I am looking for more fundamental Christian Blogs of others to visit and read. But that might be hard now days because the term 'Christian' is just a 'buzz word' in our modern day vernacular. I have some very close, great friends now-- but one never has TOO MANY FRIENDS. So if you all can throw some ideas at me, I would thank you very much.
Thanks.
Attached is a pic of my 2 beautiful daughters, Barbara and Sarah. I also have a smart, handsome son named, Andy.

Bail out after Bailout..Where does it end?

Old Soldier Tom's Journal.

I felt that Dirk's post was so truthful and important that I had to "borrow" it. Thank you, Dirk!

BAILOUT AFTER BAILOUT . . . WHERE DOES IT END?

NATALIE commented in an entry some time ago asking for my thoughts on the automaker bailout. It has been some weeks ago, but I haven't had the opportunity to research it out. I already had my opinions about all of the bailouts, so I'll include the first one too.

The first bailout is known as the
TROUBLED ASSET RELIEF PROGRAM (TARP) (clickable link to see a brief explanation). I won't go into a lot of details about the particulars. I'm sure everyone has heard enough about for about three lifetimes.

These funds are basically in two parts although the first part was broken up into an initial $250 billion and then $100 billion for a total of $350 billion. The total package is slated to be $700 billion. This bailout was to buy bad mortgages as taxpayer expense. YOU AND I NOW OWN BILLIONS OF DOLLARS OF "BAD DEBT." As we all know, "bad debt" is debt that can't be collected. So the bottom line is that YOUR MONEY AND MINE is being used to eliminate that losses of
FANNIE MAE , FREDDIE MAC, LEHMAN BROTHERS, AIG, and others. The cause of this crisis was giving mortgages to people who had no business having them in the first place. If you visit Fannie Mae's website, for example, you'll see their purpose is to make home ownership possible. Problem is, mortgages were extended to people with bad credit or otherwise high risk. A tremendous amount of pressure was put on lending insitututions by the Federal government starting with the CARTER ADMINISTRATION and continued through the CLINTON ADMINISTRATION including a lawsuit led by ACORN that Barack Obama, then an attorney with the lawfirm of David, Miner, Barnhill, and Galland, forced Citigroup to make SUBPRIME MORTGAGES. And one of the chief problems identiified as being one of the major causes of this crisis? Subprime mortgages. Now, you don't have to understand what subprime mortgages to see the hypocrisy here. The proverbial chickens have come home to roost. Now the Federal government is using US the taxpayers to pay for this mess. The politicians in Washington didn't listen to us, the voters. EIGHTY-EIGHT PERCENT of the American public was AGAINST the bailout and extremely angry over this. I totally agree with the 88%. The Democrats' attempt to find a Republican to blame completely failed. That's because there was no Republican to blame. The vast majority of the American public didn't go for it. Amercia said very loudly, "NO!" Yet, as we all know, they did it anyway. I hope the 88% doesn't forget, and remembers those who voted for this bailout during upcoming elections.
I say don't distribute the remaining $350 billion until some accountability measures are put into place. Just like the Hurrican Katrina funding, this first $350 billion has absolutely no accountability measures, so there can't be any accounting for where all this money goes. Without accountability, this taxpayer money can be used by the individual companies or entities any way they like, which isn't the intention of the handing over of this money.

Now, here come the U. S. automakers
Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket while the Washington politicians are in the handout mood. I have a few of problems with this. Other than the obvious socialism involved here, in my opinion, from having lived through the '70's, the Federal government once again shares a large part of the responsibility. It was during the '70's that I saw the foreign automakers allowed to export their vehicles to the United States with no restrictions whatsoever. Now before anyone yells "protectionism" here, I'll go ahead and say "you betcha." Although I don't support massive protectionism, I think a certain amount was in order here to protect American industry. There have always been many, many other industries directly tied to the U. S. automakers. But, Washington did nothing. So the market was swamped by foreign imports produced by non-union labor and therefore could be sold at a much lower price. After a time, Washington finally placed some import tariffs on foreign imports. Then the foreign automakers started building plants here, shipping the parts from overseas, and started building their cars in the U.S. to bypass the import tariffs. Washington was again very slow to respond, but it was too little too late. The damage had been done. And speaking of the Federal government, I don't think I have to go into the massive Federal regulation of the automotive industry. As with any set of Federal regulations, only about 20% are really meaningful. The rest just drives up the cost to John Q. Consumer.
The UNITED AUTO WORKERS union is a large part of this too. Again, having lived through the '70's, I witnessed strike after strike after strike and negotiation after negotiation for more company benefits, higher and higher wages, on and on it went. These chickens have also come home to roost. A company absolutely cannot continue to pay out more and more benefits and higher and higher wages and still expect to maintain enough of a profit to remain in business. An example of this is that between fifteen and twenty years ago, a worker for General Motors was laid off. He moved from Michigan to Duluth, Georgia. According to his UAW contract, he was to received FULL PAY for TWO SOLID YEARS WITHOUT PRODUCING SO MUCH AS A DOORHANDLE. Just how many businesses can stay in business with such outgo? I'm surprised they've lasted this long.
The solution to this is not a taxpayer funded bailout, uh, excuse me, it's not a "bailout", they are "bridge loans". I think that the automakers should be allowed to go bankrupt. Again, before anyone has kittens about this, bankruptcy does not mean out of business. The type of bankruptcy the automakers should file is not to go out of business, but to reorganize. In the words of one of my readers, God knows they need to. Overlapping makes and models should be eliminated and union contracts renegotiated. Bankruptcy reorganization is the only way this could be accomplished. The U. S. automakers would emerge with a less expensive employee base, fewer product lines, and new strategic operational plans. This would also allow the U. S. automakers to bring back manufacturing which is being outsourced offshore. Employement would be provided for people no longer needed on assembly lines for duplicate makes such as the Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer - same vehicle, different nameplates. It would be far cheaper for the taxpayers if this were to happen, even if extended unemployment benefits were granted by the Federal government during the reorganization time.
One last major problem with all of these bailouts is this: JUST WHERE DOES IT STOP? These bailouts just open the door for more bailouts funded with YOUR money. It shouldn't have been started, and I say end it now.

Ice Storm and Power outage.

Old Soldier Tom's Journal.
http://heli-gunnertom.blogspot.com/
tschuckman@aol.com

Things went a rye in the Schuckman residence at 0300 hours this morning...Poof!
The transformer for our entire city block blew up and we were dark, cold, but worst of all, our CPAP [
A typical CPAP machine houses the air pump in a case lined with sound-absorbing material for quieter operation. A hose carries the pressurized air to a face mask or nasal pillow.
An Example CPAP nasal mask.
CPAP therapy breaks the cycle of OSA

Positive airway pressure (PAP) is a method of respiratory ventilation used primarily in the treatment of sleep apnea, for which it was first developed.

PAP ventilation is also commonly used for critically ill patients in hospital with respiratory failure, and in newborn infants (neonates). In these patients, PAP ventilation can prevent the need for endotracheal intubation, or allow earlier extubation. Sometimes patients with neuromuscular diseases use this variety of ventilation as well.] ............. >>>

......breathing machines for sleep apnea and our Oxygen would not work either and we didn't get a good sleep. that event also knocked out our PC modem and land phone so that a guy is supposed to come over on Monday to fix things. Even though we had a substitute, bombastic preacher--very loud, I had a hard time staying awake during the sermon. Well, we dined out at the Chinese buffet after church because my 'wife didn't want to cook dinner...', and that was OK. Now the power is back on and everything is fine. But my main point is that my 'inner core of survivors' all have the 'right stuff' to cope with such power grid breakdowns. Last night the wind was very strong and the rain of the day changed to ice so that we heard the ambulance siren half the night rushing to different areas of distress.

I may sound like a pompous, big bully boy, but I demand that candles and box matches are in easy to find special designated placees/areas and that we have lots of distilled water, canned food, batteries and even a new generator[from when I bought it before Y2K] and other things at the ready. My new Dodge Ram pick up 4 by 4 truck is always loaded with warm clothes,etc, and it's my "bug out vehicle". In Winter time, especially, I try not to let the gas gauge to get below half full. I am also a knife collector and teach people how to throw edged weapons accurately. I have many hobbies and veggie gardening is fun and my wife has canned and froze many good things like tomatoes. We made a big pot of chili yesterday after church and used her tomatoes--organic, of course. I am sure that some catastrophic, weather events might catch me 'bare-footed' but I feel that I am better prepared than most people on the planet. Why? Because I MADE IT A PRIORITY TO SPEND SOME MONEY WISELY to store up certain items--just in case! I and my close Vet friends are also armed and ready to defend and protect our hearth and home. I had so much canned goods, rice, beans and toilet paper after Y2K, that I donated most of it to the church and they gave me an honest tax write off for that year of 2000...LOL.

With the world scene of investments going South--that is another story of woe for many people. I narrowly escaped by getting out of investments at the right time and spent most of that money putting in a new furnace and central A/C, and electrical in the house to upgrade. Make some--lose some.

I feel the same way about storing/ 'laying up' things in HEAVEN too. We don't KNOW when the 'Master' will come back, but it would seem logical and biblical to get right with God NOW!! Honestly, we could stop breathing tonight and be in the after phase of eternity and judgment seconds after we die. If we store up and plan for short term emergencies--- it makes sense to 'GET SAVED' now and do God's will too. The people who linger, sit on the fence and procrastinate... will NEVER make it after they step into the snare or death claims them without having made a real, honest commitment to serve the Lord Jesus forever. We could say that this act is SIMPLE to do-- but HARD for most people because of their PRIDE and SELFISHNESS. Again-- it's all about PRIORITIES. I feel that it was the finest, most important thing I ever did right in my life.
I continue to encourage my brothers and sisters to NOT let the woes of the world spook us or knock our aim off the "target" of Godly service and our 'MAIN LOVE.' God will take care of us if we have our priorities right! Praise the Lord!
Questions: email: tschuckman@aol.com

I saw that Victory Baptist Church, where we attend, had a 30 second TV ad on the History channel yesterday!! Very good! PTL!

I totally agree with the Bible saying that the 'world of unbelievers', the heathen, and the true biblical meaning of "fools" [a fool is someone who says there is no God] will, of course, think that Christians are stupid, crazy, illogical by their "unbelievers' standards." The scoffers for these past 6000 years could NEVER believe in things they 'cannot see'...although there surely is wind and electricity...Ha! [read 2 Peter 3: 3-12...]. Their higher education, so-called 'Wisdom' is FOOLISHNESS in the eyes of God [1 Cor. 3:18-19]. Personally, I have no time or pity for them. My time is better used to help honest, desiring ones and precious... sorry. Kind of like the Army and Marines-- we don't really want someone who is STUPID to stand guard next to/ with us --or cover our back sides in battle! Matthew 7:6 says, "Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces."

With the onset of cold winter weather, one automatically longs to immerse oneself in comfort and part of that is comfort foods such as soups and stews and rich desserts or puddings as they call them over...
***********************************************************************************
I just had to post this lady's recipe! When I was young my father told me about all his travels when he was in the Navy--WW-2 and how he ate all the strange, different foods around the world. If was always my opinion that the Military was "one way" to get an education, skills and a well rounded back ground and resume. You also get some help and benefits after you get out and the respect of other service people... like a special club of friends. My prior armed service in the Army does NOT define me, but it does/ has given me a "leg up" and I know that many employers have hired me, in part, because of this back ground and accomplishment. If a man can learn, survive in combat-- surely he can adapt to civilian life and other job descriptions [MOS's], in my opinion.

However, some soldiers and Marines have had a hard time re-adjusting to civilian life, including me. Not to cry in my beer today-- for |I was lucky [using that worldly term] to have had some well paying long term employment most of my life and now enjoy a good pension and other 'bennies.' As I have told many others trying to help them cope with hard times and personal disasters--we have to work with what ever cards we are dealt-- rich or poor, sickness and health, lonely or in a relationship. I find it interesting to hear about other people lives, successes and failures so I can judge/ measure/ compare myself to see if I am 'normal.' I know that sounds funny. My compass is the bible and I do have a nice 'support group' of Christians of like mind. It's funny, I think that most of my friends are more happy, content and better off than me-- but they like, respect, admire me and point to 'my toys'.. lol. It's amazing how much money we piss away on foolsih things and then wonder why we are broke...Ha!

One of my most urgent, important desires in life was to amass a nice, big nest egg of 'emergency money/ funds' for things that break, fail, paying income taxes and insurance, etc. But then something unexpected out of the blue strikes and empties my sack of silver $$$.

Time to eat lunch while it's hot. More latter.

VA: Surviving Spouses will receive lump sum $$

Nearly 11,000 Survivors to Receive Retroactive Payments by New Years
Search for Other Eligible Survivors Continues

WASHINGTON (Dec. 24, 2008) -- The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
has identified nearly 11,000 surviving spouses of deceased veterans who
will receive a lump-sum payment before the New Year to correct an error
in their VA benefits. Also documented were more than 73,000 who had
been previously paid. VA officials are still tracking down eligible
survivors.

"I am pleased that our task force working to correct this problem has
been able to identify this first group this week," said Secretary of
Veterans Affairs Dr. James B. Peake. "We understand the difference these
funds can make for these surviving spouses, especially during the
holiday season."

Payments will be released to these survivors on Dec. 29. The total
value of the payments is about $24 million.

At issue is a 1996 federal law that makes a surviving spouse eligible to
receive the veteran's VA compensation or pension benefit for the month
of the veteran's death. VA failed to properly implement that law in all
cases.

Most likely to have been affected by this problem are surviving spouses
who never applied for VA survivors' benefits following the death of a
veteran. Eligible for the payment are surviving spouses of veterans who
died after Dec. 31, 1996. The Department doesn't have current addresses
for many of them, which makes the process of contacting them difficult.

VA has established a special Survivor Call Center (1-800-749-8387) for
spouses who believe they may be eligible for this retroactive benefit.
The Call Center is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00
p.m., Central Standard Time. Inquiries may also be submitted through
the Internet at http://www.vba.va.gov/survivorsbenefit.htm.

Legitimacy Dwindles

Zounds! Public sentiment toward the accelerating economic fiasco has shifted, seemingly overnight, from a mood of nauseated amazement to one of panicked grievance as the United States moves closer to an apparent comprehensive collapse — and so ill-timed, wouldn’t you know it, to coincide with the annual rigors of Santa Claus. The tipping point seems to be the Bernie Madoff $50 billion Ponzi scandal, which represents the grossest failure of authority and hence legitimacy in finance to date in as much as Mr. Madoff was a former chairman of the NASDAQ, for godsake. It’s like discovering that Ben Bernanke is running a meth lab inside the Federal Reserve. And out in the heartland, of course, there is the spectacle of Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich trying to desperately dodge a racketeering rap behind an implausible hairdo.

What seems to spook people now is the possibility that everybody in charge of everything is a fraud or a crook. Legitimacy has left the system. Not even the the legions of Obama are immune as his reliance on Wall Street capos Robert Rubin, Tim Geithner, and Larry Summers seem tainted by the same reckless thinking that brought on the fiasco. His pick last week for chief of the SEC, Mary Shapiro, is already being dissed as a shill for the Big Bank status quo. In a few days we’ll discover what kind of bonuses are being ladled out by the remaining Wall Street banks with TARP money and a new chorus of howls will ring out.

This is very dangerous territory. In dollar terms, the numbers being applied to the various problems are so colossal — trillions! — that the death of our currency seems assured. And in defiance of Congress’s express intentions, none of the TARP “money” has been applied to its targeted purpose of buying up “toxic” (i.e. fraudulent) securities hidden in the vaults of banks, pension funds, and municipal portfolios.

George W. Bush’s personal bailout of General Motors and Chrysler is designed solely to postpone their bankruptcy and mass job layoffs until after the holidays. Otherwise, the $17.4 billion will probably be used by the companies to underwrite the extensive legal work required for the moment they must declare bankruptcy — when Mr. Obama is in the White House. Meanwhile, the President-elect has ramped up his job-creation target overnight from two to three million, and some observers are catching a whiff of Soviet-style economic engineering (“...we pretend to work and they pretend to pay us....”).

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The years since Jimmy Carter have produced an astoundingly flaccid public, sunk in various addictions and distractions, but this is about to change. The darkling mood of political protest and violent activism that saturated my own young adult years is scudding up again on the horizon. Mr. Obama’s pick for attorney general, the mild-looking Eric Holder, may be the key figure in the early months of the new government. If he doesn’t commence some aggressive investigations and prosecutions — beginning with Henry Paulson for insider trading when he was in charge of Goldman Sachs and shorting his own company’s mortgage-backed securities — then the whole Obama enterprise could fall under suspicion of illegitimacy. The bums who ran the U.S. banking sector into a ditch have to account for their turpitudes. They can’t be allowed to hide under a TARP.
Unfortunately, the legal system, and probably the legislative system, will be so buried in procedural B.S. from the unwind of countless enterprises and institutions, and the sorting out of the remnants, that it remains to be seen whether this generation of people-in-charge can even embark on a fresh start of anything connected to real everyday life in America. All this is starting to alarm the tattered residue of the middle classes, and from here it’s a very short path to them being really pissed off.
When legitimacy erodes, anything goes. Nothing is respected including rules and personalities. The center doesn’t hold and the new vacuum there is a tumultuous place. The same crisis of authority and legitimacy is spreading from nation to nation now. Soon, China will contend with a discontented army of the unemployed. Greece has been in an uproar for two weeks. Belgium’s government just collapsed. Trade barriers are going up. Exports are falling away. The world’s energy markets are not immune to these disorders. I would expect problems with the currently seamless supply lines that bring America two-thirds of the oil we use. Even a mild disruption of oil supplies could attach an anvil to the ankle of an economy already falling off a cliff.
Right now, the overwhelming sentiment is to get this country back to where we were, say, ten years ago, when everything was humming nicely: Clinton nostalgia. We’re definitely not gong back there, though. It’s an idle wish. And any set of policies designed to lead in that direction will prove very disappointing. Our destination is a land of much smaller-scaled local economies. We could retain our federal ties if the federal government can scale back appropriately from the bloated, feckless enterprise it has become. Otherwise, it might only get in the way and make matters worse, and the public in one region or another of North America might reach a decision that they are better off without it. That would be what’s called a revolution.
All kinds of motives, pure, honest, selfish, flamboyant, kind, helpful and boastful. My friend, Carolyn and I are into Bible prophesy, true Christianity and Witnessing, in my opinion-- and that is NOT a popular subject now days... lol. I know that we are both witty and talented enough to be able to write 'popular themes' that would garner many more readers and followers, if that is what drove our hearts. For my part, I inject much about combat Veterans, corruption of the VA system, Gov't and finance, history, because I feel qualified to speak about those subjects too. Also, my favorite mission of connecting with other combat and disabled military Vets because I am one and I enjoy the comraderie! The end game is focusing on the most important thing that I know that is GOOD FOR ALL HUMANKIND-- God's Will and the bible. Hey! I love my super dog, 'Deuce' the Rottweiler, our trained "service animal" and number one joker and and entertainer, and othe3r varied subjects, hobbies, like my woord carving and small knife collection. But I just don't know for sure if 'Deuce' is going to heaven.. LOL.[just kidding..] One thing I DO know-- we are all here for eternity and 70-90 years on a ruined planet filled with wicked, greedy, selfish, corrupt, immoral people doesn't come close to the rest of all eternity in either heaven or hell !
Of course there are different ways to live on earth--- being rich is nice-- being poor is much harder. I have actually been in both situations. At one time I lived for a while in Arvada [a Denver suburb], CO, where my wife and I collectively had about $9K of spendable cash, and we bought a quarter of a million dollar beautiful house, but she was emotionally unstable and her son and daughter controlled her and sabotaged our short relationship so that she left me within months of the wedding. It's very hard for me to finally put this in print. I loved her very much. She claimed to be a 'Christian' but didn't know the bible at all and attended a "feel good" church that just tickled her ears. And I had trouble breathing the thin, dry air near the beautiful mountains. Yes, I learn so much stuff the hard way, and I have a soft heart like a Teddy bear that over rules the logic of my brain... too often, and gets me into trouble. Long distance relationships seldom last! And the term "Christian" is nothing but a 'buzz word' now days, and few people take their wedding vows seriously! I lost tons of money in that adventure and was cut to the heart. I think that I should have just stayed single after that, but I got lonely and duped again. A slow learner is poor old Tom.
And before we know it, old age is upon us and we look back on our former life to see the real meaning of life and what we think we accomplished... The Book of Ecclesiastes [written by wise old King Solomon] used to be my FAVORITE book of the Bible for all it's Wisdom and Understanding. There, Solomon, was a rich man who also had to learn the hard way... lol. At least I can get a good laugh at the truth of his words, like: Eccl. 10:3, "Even when the fool walks along the road, his sense is lacking and he demonstrates to everyone that he is a fool." HO-HO-HO !! But the last two verses of the last chapter sums is all up in Eccl. Chapter 12: 13, 14,
"The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear GOD and keep His commandments, because this applies to EVERY person. (14) For God will being every act to judgement, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil."
I feel that this advice should be my main priority in life, especially as I turn age 60 on Feb. 20th, Woo Woo!
Now I am in a mental debate as to whether I should haul my fat body to the Kenosha YMCA Gym to PUMP IRON and then get in the hot whirl pool and Sauna, or jsut stay home to help clean the messy house.
I bid you peace and safety.
THE DOOBIE BROTHERS - Long Train Running (1973)
Merry Christmas!! As for a 'Happy New Year'... that remains to be seen..lol. I am NOT a humbug, just a realist and history buff. Those who don't know History will be condemned to relive it.
I found the below article very timely and logical. I can identify with people who play the game of chess. My Dad taught me that game when I was a teenager and it makes a person THINK! 'What will you opponent do in the next 3 future moves, and the big question, 'IF' something happens-- what will be the 'REACTION?' Chess may be a 'game of war' but I find it exciting. I have not taught my wife how to play it yet.
Anyway, 'IF' the U.S. "implodes" from it's bad fiscal, financial planning and 'management' [China already owns us...] with a super big loss of jobs and extreme foreclosures, etc., we can expect big time riots and rumbles that the local police cannot control. This is partially what I was talking about in past posts about the distinct possibility of America not existing in a year or two. I HOPE that I am 100% wrong! God Bless America!
Christmas Eve with the Schuckman's in Wisconsin.
Old Soldier Tom's Journal.
http://heli-gunnertom.blogspot.com/
My wife and I made the short drive tonight to my sister Linda's house in Burlington, WI [12 miles from my house] for a nice dinner, visit and good company. Her daughter, my Mom and my Brother's 2 son's were there too with their wives and girlfriends , and everything was stress free and comfortable with great food. Unfortunately when I father was still alive until 1997 it was very stressed and I always felt uncomfortable as if I was walking on egg shells. I know he loved me but he was just so judgmental and ornery. It was always his way or hit the highway.... sorry. But that is water over the dam, and at least I had a good time visiting with everybody including my mother, who is legally blind, but doing well.
Linda and her hubby, Tom's older son, David, graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 2003, and I saw his cadet sword mounted on the wall. David has been transferred all over the world, at least 3-4 times and has seen a few countries. I am proud of David for being tough and smart enough to 'make the grade' of becoming an officer. There are 3 more 'Schuckman' officers in the Armed Forces that I know of and a nephew or two in the active Army in combat right now too. God Bless them all!
Ahh, my wife is asleep already and so will I be shortly. We shall bake a nice ham on the bone tomorrow for lunch! I am hungry just thinking about it... and my wife does a great job of cooking 99% of the time. I love her, and appreciate her skill and patience.
If you are thinking about telling some one that you like, love or care about them... DO IT NOW- TODAY! You never know when someone might die in a car crash or pass away in their sleep, and then they are gone forever! If you feel that you are not a poised, polished, speaker, practice by yourself in the mirror or someone else until you feel comfortable. This day and age--life and death can be a heart beat apart.
In my opinion, this time of year should be filled with more love. I know I just posted an article about our TAXES going to some gay-agenda orgs but it seemed timely and important at that minute-- and I was so angered by that article...grrrr. Two days after Christmas things will be 'business as usual' and we will read and see many more people losing their jobs, houses and life savings while the Gov't shovels our tax dollars to questionable orgs, companies and other sources other than they promised. Oh well... we will save that stuff for another time.
Sleep well. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas!
Barney Franks is giving our taxes to the Sodomites!
Old Soldier Tom's Journal.
Now... this is funny, how the USA is so broke and on the brink of being bankrupt and with China practically 'OWNING US'-- but we elect people like Barney Franks who allows OUR taxes to be spent on pro-Sodomite programs !! Wake Up, America ! And people are wondering how God could permit such economic hardship and woe. Wait until you see what 2009 has in store for us....lol. Bailout recipients Fannie, Freddie gave $ to 'gay' groups
Jim Brown - OneNewsNow - 12/23/2008 8:00:00 AMBookmark and Share
homosexualThe group Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays (PFOX) is outraged that even though government-backed mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac went broke and received a federal bailout, they still managed to give thousands of dollars this year to homosexual activist groups.
PFOX executive director Regina Griggs says Freddie Mac shelled out $65,000 over the past two years to the Human Rights Campaign to help homosexual couples adopt children. The Freddie Mac Foundation has given more than $125,000 to homosexual activist groups over the last three years, and the Fannie Mae Foundation has given $80,000 to such groups in the past decade.
Shawn Flaherty, a spokeswoman for Freddie Mac, told PFOX that she was not sure whether the ex-"gay" group would meet grant guidelines. However, Griggs says Flaherty noted the Foundation focuses on three priorities -- stable homes, foster care and adoption, and youth development.
Gift money
"What could be more important than supporting marriage as a man and one woman, adoption by heterosexual couples, and how about telling youth the truth -- you're not born that way [homosexual], that change is possible?" she wonders. "It was interesting because her other comment was that 'the grants have not focused on the gay community. It's a piece of it.' That's my tax dollars silencing me, silencing our organizations, coming after [Christian non-profits]. This is unbelievable."
Griggs believes it is no coincidence that openly homosexual Congressman Barney Frank (D-Massachusetts) chairs the House committee that provides oversight of Fannie and Freddie, and Frank has received more than $40,000 in campaign contributions from Fannie and Freddie since 1989. Frank's former boyfriend, Herb Moses, was an executive at Fannie Mae from 1981-1989.
Oncology -- and we shall re visit this AFTER Christmas....
Old Soldier Tom's Journal.
http://heli-gunnertom.blogspot.com/
Sorry to Rain on your parade... but I thought I needed to post this news worthy message. Don't worry-- I get back into the snowy, cold, windy fun and glee in a few minutes... lol. I personally know what real, intense, acute pain is [from terrible accidents-- and I watched my fellow soldiers in Vietnam struggle to stay alive for a few hours more...at Bien Hoa, from 122 mm rocket attacks, etc], and I continue to get shots [injections] in both my knees every 90 days for bone on bone arthritis. But and I firmly believe that it's all about GREED, and many procedures won't do the job that "doctors" promise I am not afraid to die and meet my Maker.
Tom
Dear Reader,
Oncology has a dirty little secret.
Imagine you're an oncologist. Your patient is succumbing to cancer and will probably lose his battle within a few weeks. Chemotherapy will not prolong his life. Option A: Regretfully inform him that there's nothing more you can do. Option B: Prescribe a round of chemotherapy and turn an excellent profit.
Option B is chosen far more often than you might think.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Significant poisoning
------------------------------------------------------------------
Last month, a UK review of cancer cases produced shocking results.
In about 600 cases in which cancer patients died within 30 days of receiving chemotherapy…
  • 40 percent experienced "significant poisoning" from their treatment
  • About 25 percent of the deaths were accelerated or actually caused by the chemotherapy
  • One of the co-authors of the study told ABC News (Australia) that in 20 percent of the cases, the decision to administer chemotherapy was simply inappropriate
Professor Ian Olver – CEO of Cancer Council Australia – told ABC that some patients might not fully understand the limits of chemotherapy.
MIGHT not? Any thoughtful (and ethical) oncologist should start from Square One assuming that his patient doesn't understand ANYTHING about chemotherapy. And it's HIS job to thoroughly school each patient.
For instance each patient should fully understand that only 10 types of cancer are considered "highly responsive" to chemotherapy. And every patient should fully understand that in many cases, chemotherapy can only be expected, at best, to prolong life by a few months.
And to be completely aboveboard, every patient should also fully understand that oncologists stand to make a nice little profit nearly every time they administer chemotherapy.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Medicare pulled off the gravy train
------------------------------------------------------------------
It's called the chemotherapy concession (we'll call it "chemo con" for short), and here's how it works: Cancer patients often receive chemotherapy drugs in the offices of their oncologists. The doctors purchase the drugs themselves, then bill their patients. Here's the catch: Oncologists typically charge patients far higher amounts than they originally pay for the drugs.
This is completely legal. It's a "concession" for oncologists, to offset overhead, and it assumes that insurance companies will pay the lion's share. But it also tempts oncologists to administer chemo when the drug may not be effective.
When I first told you about chemo con in 2003, it was a real moneymaker. That changed somewhat in 2005 when Congress took Medicare out of the equation. But the con continues for all those other cancer patients whose insurance companies often pay exorbitant sums for cancer treatments. (Yep – this is one of the reasons our insurance premiums are always rising.)
So how pervasive a problem is chemo con? That question was answered by Ezekiel J. Emanuel, M.D., an oncologist and bioethicist. When Dr. Emanuel examined the medical records of almost 8,000 cancer patients, he found that in cases where chemotherapy was administered in the final six months of life, ONE-THIRD of the patients suffered from cancers that are known to be unresponsive to chemotherapy.
Without question, there are many ethical and honest oncologists who don't line their pockets by exploiting the system. But as long as this system allows a legal free-flow of cash, you can be sure that "significant poisoning" will continue.
Don't we just love the greedy 'doctors', CEO's and politicians ??
*************************************************
The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,
I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight.
My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,
My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.
Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,
Transforming the yard to a winter delight.
The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,
Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve.
My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,
Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep.
In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,
So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream.
The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,
But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.
Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know, Then the
sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.
My soul gave a tremble, I struggled to hear,
And I crept to the door just to see who was near.
Standing out in the cold and the dark of the night,
A lone figure stood, his face weary and tight.
A soldier, I puzzled, some twenty years old,
Perhaps a Marine, huddled here in the cold.
Alone in the dark, he looked up and smiled,
Standing watch over me, and my wife and my child.
"What are you doing?" I asked without fear,
"Come in this moment, it's freezing out here!
Put down your pack, brush the snow from your sleeve,
You should be at home on a cold Christmas Eve!"
For barely a moment I saw his eyes shift,
Away from the cold and the snow blown in drifts..
To the window that danced with a warm fire's light
Then he sighed and he said "Its really all right,
I'm out here by choice. I'm here every night."
"It's my duty to stand at the front of the line,
That separates you from the darkest of times.
No one had to ask or beg or implore me,
I'm proud to stand here like my fathers before me.
My Gramps died at ' Pearl on a day in December,"
Then he sighed, "That's a Christmas 'Gram always remembers."
My dad stood his watch in the jungles of ' Nam ',
And now it is my turn and so, here I am.
I've not seen my own son in more than a while,
But my wife sends me pictures, he's sure got her smile.
Then he bent and he carefully pulled from his bag,
The red, white, and blue... an American flag.
I can live through the cold and the being alone,
Away from my family, my house and my home.
I can stand at my post through the rain and the sleet,
I can sleep in a foxhole with little to eat.
I can carry the weight of killing another,
Or lay down my life with my sister and brother..
Who stand at the front against any and all,
To ensure for all time that this flag will not fall."
" So go back inside," he said, "harbor no fright,
Your family is waiting and I'll be all right."
"But isn't there something I can do, at the least,
"Give you money," I asked, "or prepare you a feast?
It seems all too little for all that you've done,
For being away from your wife and your son."
Then his eye welled a tear that held no regret,
"Just tell us you love us, and never forget.
To fight for our rights back at home while we're gone,
To stand your own watch, no matter how long.
For when we come home, either standing or dead,
To know you remember we fought and we bled.
Is payment enough, and with that we will trust,
That we mattered to you as you mattered to us."
PLEASE, would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many
people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our
U.S service men and women for our being able to celebrate these
festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people
stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us.
Getting Too Old for Games.
Old Soldier Tom's Journal.
http://heli-gunnertom.blogspot.com/
<<< Here is a young, 19 year old kid in Cu Chi, Vietnam, with M-16 rifle, in early 1968, Tom Schuckman, who had a lot to learn and did learn to survive.
***********************************************
"The Games People Play - Joe South - 1969
When some people get "older" like me, who have had an extremely active life style or hard work and hard play, all those fractured bones and injuries finally begin to catch up to you. My father broke his collar bone in high school football, I injured my knee, my brother Albert broke his ankle, etc. When we are young, according to 'doctors' and med books, we seem to heal faster because we are still growing and are in better physical condition. A VA dentist told me 6 months ago that he has NEVER seen some one's blood clot so quickly-- and my body repairs itself-- I am blessed. Also being an herbalist, I know how to treat myself and I only go the doctors when I really have to, or to keep an appointment, and it's all "free" at the VA. That's the good side of things. But I will NOT LET THEM CARVE ME UP FOR A 'BOWEL RESECTION' to make me lose weight!! I won't get a 'bionic knee' either.
I have also noticed from life's observations that some older people seem to be a bit crabby, gruff, and ornery. What WE don't know is how that person's past life style went, if they abused drugs or booze, didn't eat right, was not raised to understand their limitations, 'cause and effect' and priorities in life... or they may have got injured in combat/ war, on the job, etc. There are some very nice, kind old people who would like to have more friends and visits, but they 'come across' as anti-social and belligerent. I feel that I should at least reach out anyway to check them out and try to be friends.
I am that type of person who will TAKE THE INITIATIVE and walk up to a stranger at church [or where ever] to strike up a conversation and also 'witness' to him/ her about my joy and happiness in having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. If they 'bite off my head'', or just want to play their silly, belittling games, or just don't care for my company-- I just excuse my self, back up and leave them alone. Simple! I don't ever want to push ANYONE or 'force' my opinions or observation on them if they are not interested. And as I don't have the energy, strength,time or inclination to 'play games'; why should I over stress myself with 'foolishness' ! And then my insight, God giving wisdom and perception tells me: 'if it looks like duck and walks like duck, and sounds like a duck -- it IS a DUCK!!... LOL' I have my own little circle of educated, peer group/ friends who like, love and respect me, and we are bonded to help each other.. and I know that most of them would die-- or shed blood for ME. That, in my opinion, is a powerful testimony . We are the fundamental, bible believing Christian Warriors, and proud of it, ready to die for our Lord and beliefs. We are promised that we shall inherit heaven if we die for Jesus Christ. Other folks in the world do the same thing-- but they worship 'other false gods.' We feel and totally believe that OUR GOD IS THE ONE TRUE GOD, and we shall see who wins in the end. We feel that we are 'well armed' with the "sword of God-- the Bible." America may NOT even exist in a few years.... We could "implode' economically, be reduced/ decimated from bio agents or nuclear war. We are not even mentioned in the Bible, but Israel, Russia and China [I think] are, along with parts of Europe. But that is another subject and post. That is Carolyn's cup of tea.
Aside from that, the more we study and inter act with other people, our "sword play" is honed and sharpened so that we can usually spot a fake, a plastic fraud, who just wants to antagonize, start silly games/ fight to tear down our Faith -- when they have none. Check out Mathew 10: 14 says, "Whoever does not receive you, nor heed your words, as you go out of that house or that city, SHAKE THE DUST OFF YOUR FEET." One way I put it, is to let them simmer in their own ignorance! If Jesus could not soften the heart of evil men-- how can we expect to? We DO NOT JUDGE PEOPLE-- but by their own ACTIONS they bring JUDGMENT ON THEMSELVES. God judges them. My fundamental bros and sisters all over the world honestly think that 'God's judgment' is just about finished. All of OUR sorrow, pain, injustices and injuries will shortly been at an end! Yes, these harsh, hard, economic times are all mentioned in the bible {2 Timothy chapter 3, etc.} and when WE pray the prayer that Jesus taught His followers in Matt. 6:9, we are actually praying for 'God's Kingdom to Come' .. NOW. Others who pray that prayer out of habit or ignorance are actually praying for their OWN DESTRUCTION! Ha! And they will be standing outside the proverbial ARK when it starts to rain. And then they will remember our words and efforts to share with them something that is precious and close to our hearts-- but it will be too late.
Hey, don't you think I like to have fun, spend money, go out to eat and visit my friends and relatives?? I am NOT any different than others except that I have disciplined myself to learn the TRUTH of the Bible and I have embraced the Son, Jesus Christ, as my personal Savior!! My sins are forgiven-- unless I am playing some game.. and God doesn't like that at all, and only He knows my inner heart of hearts. So then, what possible good could come of playing some stupid, artful game. But unfortunately many church goes do just that, and they will be discovered in due time. So those last sentences blow the 'stupid theory' and excuse that church is not for them... somebody offended them at one time, or was guilty of wrong doing. Just measure and test that church [congregation] with the 'tape measure' of the BIBLE and that will tell you if they are real or counterfeit. If the Bible says they re doing something wrong, and they won't listen to you, leave that place and search out a different church where they DO teach the pure Gospel truth! Don't you love simplicity??
One more thing, please. I am NOT ashamed of my service to America and to the U.S. Army, but I am MORE than a Soldier, combat warrior! I am a husband, father, skilled worker/ welder, auto worker, farmer, carpenter, wood carver, writer, blogger, Journalist, a good cook outdoors on the grill, a history buff, and servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. I was a soldier for 3 years of my life -1967-1970, but it was a jet powered 'RUSH' of non-stop excitement, action and danger that never quite got out of my blood. It is normal, reasonable, logical that I 'connect' well with other war/ combat Veterans per our 'common experience !' Some special Veterans shared their experience and knowledge with me years ago that probably SAVED my life, and so I feel the need to reach out and reciprocate to others now via my on-line Journal and letters/ phone, etc.
Thank you for visiting my humble Journal... and for your civil, kind, courteous commenting.
Great Joke ! Enjoy.
Old Soldier Tom's Journal.
http://heli-gunnertom.blogspot.com/
A burglar broke into a Catholic Family's home one night.
He shined his flashlight around, looking for valuables; when he heard, a strange voice echoing from the dark saying, 'Jesus is watching you.'
He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight off, and froze.
After awhile when he heard nothing more, he shook his head and continued.
Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a bell he heard, 'Jesus is watching you.'
Freaked out, he shined his light around frantically, looking for the source of the voice and finally, in the corner of the room, his flashlight beam came to rest on a parrot.
Did you say that?' He whispered to the parrot.
'Yep,' the parrot squawked, 'I'm just trying to warn you.'
The burglar relaxed. 'Warn me, huh? And what is your name?'
'Moses,' replied the bird.
'Moses?' the burglar laughed.
'What kind of people would name a bird Moses?'
'The kind of people that would name a Rottweiler, Jesus.'
