Red Wine and Your Gut? (Interesting Study Results)

by Mike Geary - Certified Nutrition Specialist

You've probably heard that red wine can be a very healthy drink option, but you most likely only heard about generic benefits of the antioxidants and resveratrol in red wine.
But here's another MAJOR reason below why red wine in moderation (1-2 glasses per day max) can be a super healthy part of your routine.  I personally have really grown to enjoy having a glass of red wine with dinner about 4-5 days per week.
A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (Am J Clin Nutr. 2012;95:1323-1334) reported that people who drank 2 glasses of red wine per day (dry red wine, not sugary dessert wines) had higher levels of beneficial bacteria in their gut and lower levels of pathogenic bad bacteria in their gut.  This is great news as you know from reading this newsletter how vastly important your gut flora balance is to everything from your digestion, immunity, metabolism, skin health, and much more.
The study concluded that while red wine consumption decreased pathogenic bacteria in the gut, it actually had a prebiotic effect in the gut in that it supported the growth and colonies of healthy gut microbes which protect your health.
But the powerful health benefits of red wine don't stop there...
Another exciting part of this study is that the red wine drinkers also decreased systolic and diastolic blood pressure, triglycerides, LDL cholesterol, and CRP (C-reactive protein).  CRP is a measure of overall inflammation in your body, so it's great to see an association between red wine and reduced inflammation.
The interesting part of the study is that red wine was compared against equivalent servings of gin (equivalent alcohol serving) and none of the benefits mentioned above were seen in the group consuming the gin.  This means the benefits were probably related to the polyphenols and resveratrol in red wine and not necessarily the alcohol content itself, although there is likely a synergistic effect of the alcohol and other compounds in red wine since the group receiving de-alcoholized red wine got less of a blood pressure benefit.
You can choose Cabernet, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Shiraz or any other dry red wine to get all of these powerful health benefits of the unique polyphenols and resveratrol.
Note that white wine also has some health benefits but not nearly as powerful as red wine due to the lower antioxidant levels.
Another benefit of red wine not mentioned in the study above is that some studies show that red wine consumed with a meal can slow and moderate the blood sugar response you get from that meal.  This is yet another benefit to keeping your hormones balanced, lowering insulin levels, controlling appetite, and staying lean!
As you can see, there's plenty of reasons raise a glass of red wine at your meals and toast to your health and happiness!  After all, I've seen several stories on the news where they ask a centenarian how they're so healthy over the age of 100, and one of the answers they seem to frequently give is that they have one glass of red wine per day.
Although red wine may be a super-healthy choice for a lean, healthy, & strong body as well as keeping your digestive system healthy…
On the next page, I want to share with you exactly why you should STOP eating whole wheat bread, vegetable oil, sugar, soy, and even some ‘heart healthy’ foods, as well as how these foods are silently KILLING you and your family.

Rapture As Reward

Q. Let’s say a person fully leans on faith in God thru Jesus Christ, tries not to sin, prays, repents, is baptized, and reliant on Holy Spirit for daily life … also knowing that this life can change at any time according to the end times and God’s will.  Yet this person is not sure as to the mechanics or theology surrounding the “rapture”. Will such persons who are following Jesus, still be taken if indeed the rapture is the “reward” for being a believer?

A.  There’s no Bible verse on the rapture that makes any mention of qualifications for inclusion other than the faith that saves us.   Nor does any verse differentiate “good” Christians from “bad” ones in determining who gets to go. Believing in the rapture or not, or in a certain timing for it, or in a list of qualifications, are not salvation issues and have no bearing on our destiny. The Bible only says that the Lord will return for His own, and He knows who they are.
Paul said right after the resurrection of the dead we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them (1 Thes 4:16-17).  He didn’t say those of us who believe in the rapture, but simply “we”,  implying that all believers who are alive at the time will be taken.
Put another way, for a believer the Rapture is like gravity. It applies the same to all of us whether we believe in it or not.

I have often used [with permission] THE DAILY JOT, in my posts on this blog and expanded on them somewhat because I feel that they are that good.   I have never asked for any funds for myself, as the good Lord takes care of me and provides enough to pay all my bills, and I also donate to the proper things in life that magnify our Father in heaven, and the Son, our Savior.  Today I am asking you all to consider helping out this fine Christian Warrior Man/ Soldier of Christ, please.   I am sure that the 'dark powers that be' would love to silence him, as he only speaks the truth about every matter.... and I would be following next in line, except I don't think that they would 'take me alive.'

I am going to write out a check to this ministry right after I post this info.

Warm Regards,

Dear Daily Jot Reader,

What has driven me to write The Daily Jot faithfully for over 13 years is the call of the Lord on my heart. What encourages me when I feel like giving up are the multitude of emails like these:
" Keep stirring our minds and hearts to God's prophetic
Scripture during these end times! "--DSC
" Want to thank you for all you hard work and encouragement, Read and forward your "Daily Jot" all the time."--OC
" 'Just thank you so much that the LORD has called you to this ministry... this work...this vision...carry on I get excited to read what you post each day. "--RR

"WOW! You should get the Pulitzer Prize For Truth Telling for those excellent comments. I bet all you get is a good, swift KICK IN THE TEETH, ole buddy! LOL. Keep'm coming!!!!!-- BT

It's the thousands of emails like these that I have received over the past 13 years that serve as a true testimony to God's faithfulness, His mercy and His transforming power. This all has been made possible through the prayers and support of friends like you over the years.

The Daily Jot reached a milestone this week when we topped nearly 6,000 active subscribers and a nearly 6,000 reach on Facebook. And I know that many of you faithfully send the Jot to your lists, or publish it on your websites, or share it with your small groups, which reach approximately 20,000 people per day. That's exactly what the Lord intends for you to do, as well as to be encouraged to use the information provided to take a stand for God's righteousness.
From time to time, I have asked for your financial assistance to keep the Jot going. And each month the Lord has provided through a handful of the faithful who share in this vision. I have never asked the Lord for a surplus, only to meet our monthly needs so we could minister yet another month.

This never has been easy, but we have learned to depend on the Lord because He stirs the hearts of folks such as yourself. Through the unction of the Holy Spirit and the encouragement of the Saints, I have kept writing in obedience to the Lord because now more than ever we need bold witnesses to speak the truth.
Our ministry here in the states and our outreach in Ghana, West Africa do a good work with very limited resources. We are not hirelings. There is no salary taken from the Jot. Children are fed and clothed, pastors are raised up, education is provided, and many, such as yourself, are equipped with daily information that can be and is used for expanding and edifying God's kingdom.

I believe that there are several reading these words right now who have the ability to step up and help this ministry with a gift, and I am asking you to pray and make that commitment. God knows your heart; and it's not about the amount, its about your obedience--just as it is my obedience to write what He lays on my heart each day.
Please don't ignore this email. Without the funds to operate, The Daily Jot cannot exist. There is no fancy office here, no huge staff, no extravagancy that have come to be the hallmark of many major ministries.

My wife Chris and I appreciate you and thank you for your prayers and support. I want you to know that I take this commitment with my Lord very seriously otherwise we would not continue this journey with the hardships that we have faced for doing so. Please stand with us in both prayer and action. Thank you.
Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!
