VA to Provide Payments to Eligible Surviving Spouses Quick Action Taken to Resolve Problem Identified by Senate Chairman

WASHINGTON (Dec. 18, 2008) - The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) today announced immediate actions to quickly identify and pay surviving spouses who are eligible to receive a one-time compensation or pension payment for the month of the veteran's death.

"This benefit payment is long overdue to many of our beneficiaries," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr. James B. Peake. "In these difficult economic times, it is imperative that we take aggressive action to fix this situation for the families of our veterans."

Problems in VA's implementation of a change in law that was effective in 1997 resulted in some surviving spouses not receiving the veteran's compensation or pension payment for the month of death. This problem was recently brought to VA's attention by Sen. Daniel K. Akaka, chairman of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee.

Peake immediately directed the formation of a special task force to identify and pay the beneficiaries who never received the benefit or were inadvertently required to repay the money issued for the month of a veteran's death.

Surviving spouses most likely to be affected by this processing problem are those who never applied to VA for survivors' benefits following the death of a veteran.

The task force is in the process of reviewing VA's payment records for veterans who died after December 31, 1996, and who are survived by a spouse. The review will identify those to whom VA owes retroactive benefits for the month of the veteran's death. Current address information is being obtained for as many of these beneficiaries as possible.

VA will begin issuing retroactive payments to eligible surviving spouses at the end of this month. Payments will continue to be issued as additional unpaid beneficiaries are identified and VA is able to obtain current address information.

Because there are deceased veterans for whom VA does not have marital status information, a special Survivors' Call Center has been established for spouses who believe they may be entitled to this retroactive month-of-death benefit.

Surviving spouses are encouraged to contact the Survivors' Call Center at the toll-free telephone number, 1-800-749-8387. Call center agents will assist surviving spouses in providing VA with the information needed to determine their eligibility.

The Call Center is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 7:00 PM central standard time. Inquiries may also be submitted through the Internet at http://www.vba.va.gov/survivorsbenefit.htm.

VA is aggressively changing its processing procedures to ensure this benefit is correctly paid to all surviving spouses in the future. VA's disability payment system will also be enhanced to automate the month-of-death payment for all eligible surviving spouses.

In my final paper after the first of the year I discuss this issue of what Congress passes or intends so they say and just what this discussion is about; VA implementation. In every case, just like this the Veteran or the Widow takes it on the chin because of what VA does and what they consider the correct implementation on their behalf not what was intended. DoD is very similar.

No one is going to tell me that from the Secretaries of VA we have had and the Directors of Benefits of VA we have had all the way down to the people doing the denying that no one at VA knew or recognized this wrong and yet they did it anyway. NO ONE has the guts to say that.

While Senator Akaka finally said something Congress in its entirety has known what they perceived was not being done and in fact was being done detrimental to the Widow and family and did nothing. NOTHING AT ALL. Not even a damn meeting, much less any oversight. Once again no one is discussing the ramifications of what this VA policy did to our families in many areas of mental and financial abuse.

I also like the phraseology of the statements “aggressively changing”. This means nothing and you should not take it literally. This could mean over the next two to five years you might see some retroactive money. Veterans and widows alike have no right to expect some reasonable interpretation of what VA says in these descriptions. No different from the "must be expedited by stated law" when in claim remand. Stated by law yet Veterans and Widows have no case to expect some form of reasonable application of those laws and the words “must be expedited” when it comes to VA. It could be and probably will be a minimum of two years and then on out.

Then you have... The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) today announced immediate actions to quickly identify and pay surviving spouses who are eligible to receive a one-time compensation or pension payment for the month of the veteran's death. Immediate to VA means when they get around to it or the cries of 'wrong doing' go down which ever comes first. They will put one person on it to show they are doing something. Then blame some computer fiasco as to why nothing is done.

I would expect more VA hoops with this for our Widows to get anything. Probably put them back in the VA Hamster wheel for at least a 12 to 18 months gathering more and more paper work so Regional Centers can shred it and change the dates.

So I would be surprised if this also is nothing but VA propaganda. Not to the point they have been challenged and admitted wrong. But the point that anything is going to be done in any aggressive timely manner or expedited. This would be a first for VA.

Then we have the following:

Nothing but spin that Joseph Goebbels would be proud of.

This puts the blame back on widows as it is their fault. Yes there are plenty of widows out there that did file and they were taken to the cleaners by VA and the way they implemented the policy.

But one would have to ask why would a widow not apply?

I will tell you why. VA outreach on purpose is almost non-existent. Congressman Filner brought that up several times.

Now why would that be?

Because VA does not want the Widows to know that for example what their spouse died from after decades of denial has made the hit parade finally of one of those death and disability disorder created by our own government. Some come to our reunions and find out that their husband was wounded on the battlefield and died from those wounds. VA or our government will not mount campaigns to inform our Widows or our walking wounded that what they died from or are disabled from is Service Connected. This is not just oversight...but intentional.

Going back to 2000 Congressional transcripts, Members asked what was VA doing for outreach and the answer was pitiful. They inform the VSO’s was the answer. That was the extent under oath of what VA does. Let them do it!@%%%%%%%%%! This is not a VSO task but a federal government money expenditure task. Veterans pay dues to the VSO’s and then for them to have to do informative publications for the government who created the problem to begin with. Salt in the open wound. How many Veterans actually belong and are active in VSO’s? Probably not a large majority.

Secretary Peake only pointed out more of what VA is not doing; on purpose I would add. How can any Widow in this day of mass media not know she is entitled to file for benefits? Even as the benefits for presumptive disorders slowly expands as more and more die not service connected from lack of admittance and collusion. Except if you did not want them to know that is.

If history was correct and you looked in Webster’s dictionary under the words: Despicable, disgraceful collusion, vengeful, omnipotent, dishonest, adversarial, it would say: See articles on the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and the Executive Branch for implementation of these words and their meanings.

I would not expect some "immediate" wholesale change in VA policy regardless of this VA propaganda of like they are actually going to do something positive in a timely manner. History says no it will not be done that way.

If you watched yesterday on Dr. Phil you heard a direct question and answer that yes the Department of Veterans Affairs lies to Congress. Just like they do to Veterans. Does anyone really think that the department heads of VA would lie to Congress and not lie to the lowly Veteran or their family.

Congressman Filner also said they deny deny lie and then lie then lies some more to minize the damages created and then hope that folks will just forget about; it just like they do to the Veterans. Exactly like the lead story of VA assists Spouses.

Too bad the other media outlets will not tell the story. Those folks making millions on their shows are so ingnorant of what is going on it is pitiful.

No one on the show mentioned the 40 year battle we have had and only concentrated on the returning Veterans. However, some of the excuses that were used do not apply to Vietnam Veterans. They were not caught off guard and unprepared by an ongoing war. Instead a policy of collusion and conspiracy was directed and that is were the efforts went. White House after White House philosophy not to support the Veterans for mistakes made by the pinheads Johnson and McNamera. Why? Because they can when your citizen rights are stripped from you by Congress and Veterans Affairs.

I hope you contact that show and thank that show for exposing this agency for what they really are. Despicable Cowards! And request a show where the Vietnam Veterans and widows can tell their story. A story repeated in the millions.

Here is a picture of me, Tom, about 7 years ago and 100 pounds lighter, when I was still working at Chrysler in Kenosha, WI, plus I had my own small welding shop business. The WI IRA harassed me so much that I legally turned it into a "HOBBY" and got them to go fly a kite! When you try to do things legally by the book you still get screwed by the Gov't and over taxed no matter how much you didn't earn! And that is the new Economics 101-- rob the working class to "re-distribute" to the non-industrious ones who won't work. Ain't that a hoot

Enough with the America-haters and jealousy for a while, please. Onto new and better things today. Kelli piqued my interest about something that I keep in a small compartment of my inner mind, HOMELESSNESS in the U.S. Yes, the "Untouchables" who exist only in the shadows, streets, under highway bridges and abandoned houses, etc. Only in America, where the Prez-elect just hired a pro-Amnesty Labor Secretary...Ha!.. and won't that be interesting. There are fakes and lazy drunks/ addicts who DON'T WANT TO EVER WORK, and then there are thousands of messed up, suffering returning soldiers with big time PTSD and TBI [traumatic brain injury] who can't concentrate enough to hold a simple job, or are 'over qualified', or who fall thru the cracks of this depressed economic system.

For what ever reason we Americans think that they only need two good hot meals a year--Thanksgiving and Christmas. I know what it is like because I have actually been there for a short time in the Milwaukee Winter of 1994-95, and I am still a bit bitter for having been treated like a worthless leper! Especially when I thought I had a good education, skills, talents and back ground. Without a steady "Base Camp" of support, home, and transportation, a person is 'DOA'- dead on arrival, in my opinion. The apostle Paul said, in 2 Thessalonians 3: 10, "For when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either." NASB. And the Bible has a lot more to say about the evils of laziness, poverty. In the Old Law Covenant, however, there were provisions for the poor folks. The farmers were told to not harvest all the grain on the edges of their fields so that the poor people could 'glean' -harvest enough to feed themselves. Well, that meant that they had to at least 'work' to gather their own food. No welfare checks or food stamps... sorry...LOL. But here in America, illegal aliens get all kinds of Fed. and State perks-- while the disabled Veteran, injured, and the unemployable get much less! Shame...

In a true Christian culture/ community/ situation, people in our congregation all chip in to the church food pantry and on Sunday night after the service ANYONE can go there to get two bags of food items without giving their name or address or any other information. We also support many missionaries in many countries. I have personally donated the use of my pick up truck, fuel/ gas, time and effort to haul tons of food from the large Milwaukee '2nd Harvest' back to our church food pantry. That is not a brag-- just facts. Our pastor also helps people find jobs and teaches them spiritually how stay away from things they don't need and to better conserve their money and assets. A few of my good friends still smoke and I love them much as my Christian brothers and sisters--no problem. But do you all know that if a person has the habit of smoking just one pack of smokes per day-- that amounts for $100/ month spent/ lost?! Two packs= $200/mo. , and so on. Eating out, drinking too much booze, gambling also add up to money gone when you need to pay the rent or house payment. I used to smoke in the Army, and for 5 years of my life and quit in 1973. I still enjoy a small glass of wine, champagne or cool German beer with my Prime Rib...lol, and I think a tiny bit is good for my heart. But if I never drank again-- it would be OK with me too. I waste money still and I SHOULD know better having taught finance and investments. We are still a rich, fat nation.. sorry.. we are still spoiled but also have been blessed by the Lord God, in my humble opinion.

I have given money, food, clothes to people who were hungry and starving before-- and it gave me a good feeling. But sometimes it's very hard to separate the fakers from the 'needers.' Jimmy, help me with my grammar, please..lol. I love smart people!
God loves a cheerful giver, and really--God owns all the silver, diamonds and gold anyway, and we are just renters on His earth temporarily. After I was finally awarded my full 100% service-connected disability from he VA [a small miracle], I felt a bit guilty that other deserving disabled Soldiers and Marines were perhaps worse of than I [missing eyes, arms and legs...or dying of Agent Orange] --but they got 'passed over' and cheated by the VA. Some of my own Aviation brothers from the 240th AHC [Assault Hel. Co.-- my old Army unit in Viet Nam] told me NOT to feel way, but that it was a normal response to feel the way I did. I am NOT rich, but I pay all my bills and try not to make more. And I could certainly LOSE MY SHIRT IN A HEART BEAT --in this present economic environment! It happened before and threw me for a loop! Nothing is certain except death, taxes and God's mercy and love!


So the Old Law Covenant had laws to help the poor, and the New Testament Covenant of the Lord Jesus Christ still has principles binding on all Christians to help their FELLOW BELIEVERS in times of need and emergency, if they possibly can. We also would want to help even our 'ENEMIES' if they are in trouble ... but I still have to work hard on that idea... lol. I was 'raised a different way.' OK, I will explain one "act of love"... if your enemy slaps you on the cheek [and in the old days that was considered an big insult- not a move on your life], you would show "love" on YOUR part by NOT retaliating and putting a 'hay maker' between his eyes. But-- now if the nasty boy wanted to rob you, kill you or mess with your wife or dog-- you have the right to put him on the floor and protect yourself and family. Forget about calling the cops.. they will be in that donut shop drinking coffee.. lol... oh--that's an OLD JOKE... [Actually, I have MANY close friends who are good, strong, smart cops and they save lives... lol-- just a joke to get them fired up so they don't fall asleep and drool on the key board] I doubt if anyone is going to harm us or our large, mighty, well fed Rottweiler anyway. What a magnificent noble beast, friend, protector, comrade he is! 'Deuce' -- the Rotty, the wonder dog! Woof Woof!

OK, we have paid reservations to the yearly Christmas party/ dinner for the "KAVV" [-Kenosha Area Vietnam Veterans-] tonight. They always put out tons of the finest food, drink and entertainment, awards, raffles and close, meaningful camaraderie, healing. Woo Woo! You have to have been an "in-country" Viet Nam Combat Vet to be able to join that club. AND I AM NOT ASHAMED TO HAVE SERVED MY COUNTRY! The time will soon come, I believe, when we wish we had 'thrice' [sic] the amount of combat ready ARMY, NAVY, etc. There are a lot of jealous, hateful people in the world that we support with food, money, etc., who still hate us enough to annihilate us completely of the face of the earth! The last few posts on this Journal proves it.

Wow! This gentleman is really out for blood...|LOL! I can tell that 'Hugo' is highly educated, in my humble opinion, and I know that Mr. Hugo is telling the truth about certain aspects of the Vietnam War. If only he had the where with all to put these historic facts before the American people and Congress and the VA, perhaps he could do some good! However, Hugo doesn't have ALL THE FACTS RIGHT YET. He doesn't really know me well enough to make all of his presumptions about my character, beliefs and the Bible. I can guess that he is not an American citizen by his verbal usage, writing style, grammar, etc., but he is very knowledgeable and educated. In fact, I welcome good, clean, spirited arguments with MERIT and TRUTH. I also admit that I don't know everything and continue to learn new things, that I am sometimes wrong and wrong headed-- but I am firm in my beliefs about God Word- the Bible.

Now, concerning the Mei Lai massacre in Vietnam, I actually know TOO much and enough to get myself and others in trouble, although I was not in that location at the time. It was a horrible tragedy and nightmare and it was murder, IMHO, but the little Company grade officers took the heat for what the Generals should have been blamed as they really gave the order! And 'we' collectively were guilty of some bad serious things, but again--soldiers take orders. A civilian just would not know about those things. We can also talk intelligently about the US ideology, mistakes and cover ups that still affect the Vietnamese and our own US Soldiers who continue to suffer and die every day. Many mistakes are/ were made in combat and war.... even from the beginning of time to now. War is a terrible thing-- but a well armed Military/ Army/ Navy is needed for survival. That's a fact and the harsh reality! Hugo conveniently fails to talk about the violent history of the Muslims and Buddhists and their ideology... they preach one thing yet do another... same as they accuse us of. But there are plenty of "false Christians" too.
As for the Bible, Hugo, you don't know a thing about that book, it seems, and you are NOT a believer. You are locked into a false religion, and you pick and choose what you want to highlight. I respect you as a human being and your Faith-- but I certainly do not agree with it--and you on many issues. Osama Bin Ladin is another issue that I would like to talk about latter, and he is no buddy of mine either. You say that Osama is YOUR buddy...lol??

Do you really mean that God himself wanted You to massacre 83 people in my wife's family... is ''heli-gunnertom'' the Christian name which you WILL use to introduce yourself to Him, after death?

They were poor vietnamese peasants, weakened by French colonialism, no health care, no career - no travel, of course, to compare with foreign solutions!!! But a very deep respect for their ancestors' honourable traditions.

How did they threaten your country? What is the ''pacific'' way out from dictatorship you could offer them, to expect a decent future for their children?

That ugly war was not your fault, indeed. But Jesus said "What you are doing to the smallest, to my humblest creatures, you are doing it to me".

And 33 years later, babies are still being born as MONSTERS, terrifying monsters, some of them with 2 HEADS and no arms... it is expected to last 50 more years. Did God instruct YOU to bring unending punishment to people who were NOT your enemies?

Yes, you look like being generous, a good listener, how could you choose to maintain such an aggressive name/reputation? Please, do leave that for brutal borderline racist desperados, and you will become a real gentleman.

I don't have sufficient space in this 'comment forum' to set you straight on some erroneous aspects of YOUR comment. And just like I figured, YOUR 'web site' doesn't exist-- "no profile available !!" That tells me that you are a coward who strikes a sneak blow and then disappears quickly beneath the rock you live under...Ha! I could indeed change the name of my Journal and maybe I should. Actually, I now call it "Old Soldier Tom's Journal." -- from my old AOL Journal days. That was a real mess and I was 'stuck' with 'heli-gunner Tom's blogspot.'
But I doubt you were in the military, or you would KNOW that young soldiers of ANY nation take an Oath to serve and protect their country. And just what does a 19 year old really know except that he trusts that his country will do the 'right thing.'
Yes, I HATE what our country did, like poisoning the people, yours and mine with Agent Orange! Remember, that is the Administration that YOU helped elect! I was not 'old enough to vote yet.' Too bad you are not man enough to give me your email address so that we can discuss this subject in depth and I will tell you what the Viet Cong and NVA did to the Vietnamese people and our soldiers in the way of torture, murder, mutilation, etc. Soldiers of the Lord God were instructed to kill off whole nations of men, women and kids in the Bible, for the Lord said that they were that evil and rotten to the core. I will be more than glad to discuss politics and military operations with you ANYTIME when you get your manhood back in order to give me your full name and email address. I NEVER FIRED ON ANYONE UNLESS THEY FIRED ON ME FIRST, AND I NEVER DROPPED ANY AGENT ORANGE... but I have plenty of close friends who are dying of it! Bravo Tom. It's sad when people will read one small part of a blog and believe they know the person who authors it. I don't doubt the vioetnam war, or any other war for that matter, has caused great harm to people- BUT, when you think of atrocities which are avoided by going militarily against dictators and brutal rejemes, well, I don't like war and I don't know anyone who does- but I know and millions of others know that it is sometimes necessary. If I wanted to play the same game mr. Hugo is playing, I could make the assumption that he is one of millions who picks and chooses which parts of the Bible which suit him, and leave all the rest as something out dated and insignificant. However, I don't know mr. Hugo- so I won't assume anything except that he owes you and all of our soldiers- past present and future, a humble appology. God Bless you Tom. Thank you for who you are.

One of my best friends is a surgeon who served in the Gulf War and I guarantee you that the syndrome is real. If you've never played the game you just don't get it. It's easy to deny its existence when you sit your butt behind a desk in Washington and tell the players that it's not real. It's just like the agent orange deal...deny,deny,deny.

In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control. From 1929 to 1953, about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1.5 million Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and exterminated.

Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were rounded up and exterminated.

It has now been over 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by their own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in:



Australia-wide, homicides are up 3. 2 percent



Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent



Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)!



In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not, and criminals still possess their guns!



It will never happen here? I bet the Aussies said that too!



While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed.



There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the ELDERLY. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in successfully ridding Australian society of guns. The Australian experience and the other historical facts above prove it..



You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians

disseminating this information.



Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes,

gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.



Take note my fellow Americans, before it ' s too late!

It was reported that when asked why Japan did not follow up the Pearl Harbor attack with an invasion of the U. S Mainland, his reply was that he had lived in the U. S. and knew that almost all households had guns.

I want all my readers and visiters to understand that I am taking on my old title of: 'Old Soldier Tom's Journal' as it was back in AOL.. please.

'Some times I feel like a nut-- sometimes I don't.' Sometimes I feel like a Hypocrite -- sometimes I feel like I am doing the right, correct thing and being a 'good soldier.' In my family, someone who surpassed our parents' station in life, became better educated, served honorably in the Armed Forces, became a hard, honest worker who got ahead and was a good moral husband and father.. was looked up to, respected and honored. Someone who was a lazy bum was shunned. That's just how is was in the 1960's, when I was growing up, in my opinion.
You see, it's all how you were RAISED by your parents or who ever brought you up-- that shapes your mind and heart, IMHO. Although some kids were raised in an abusive family situation, or were never disciplined, spoiled rotten or trained to respect themselves or authority, God still loves them and wants them to be SAVED and do His will. They may have a tougher time understanding what Almighty God wants of them... but it's surely not impossible. In fact those who have been trampled down, broken and poor make the best Christians who now rejoice in the Lord Jesus where they know they are loved, honored and unbeatable! they put on the 'new person', change their ways and succeed in most everything they do! Bless them.

I recently found out that the 'middle' of the Bible is, Psalm 118:8, "It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man." [9] "It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes." Especially in view of the avalanche of this year's 2008 WOES and crashes, how TRUE this is !! I DON'T want to get the reputation of a 'doom's day-er' , some one who is always 'singing the blues' , a fatalist, a negative person. I know that some folks predict that we Americans shall see a coming up surge in the economy in one year that will seem like things will be better. That would be NICE, GREAT!! But when a person has been on earth for about 50 years or so, they get wise and experienced enough to 'read' the Market and compared to times in past history concerning the 'cyclic' ways of the Market/ Economy', about so-called 'Corrections', Adjustments, etc. All those years of hard study to get my Fed. Securities license for investments are now worth nothing in my eyes. I have dumped and cashed in all my Securities investments because I have seen too many close friends and relatives lose their shirt recently-- their LIFE SAVINGS! I usually have a pretty good 'nose' for these things and made a good hunk of money from quality Mutual Funds in the past. Now I have a real problem and lack of trust/ credibility with 'Wall Street.' NOW IT'S DIFFERENT, it's bad and it's ugly.

And these 'Purpose Driven Churches' who teach the 'wealth gospel' will get their 'anatomy in the ringer' when things go South and their congregations look for them with a stick in their hands....Ha! The 'Princes' mentioned in Psalm 118:9 are the modern day high, lofty, corrupt, greedy "Captains of Industry", fat cat CEO'S, dirty, corrupt Gov't heads of state, Senators and Congressmen to use their offices to milk the life blood out of the working man, who have built their fortunes on the backs of the working class, who tried to work and play by the rules, invested, saved for a dignified retirement and set up an 'UGMA' for his kids [that means a 'Uniform Gift to Minors Acct' type investment for your kids' education]. It's a house of cards, friends! Yes, we SHOULD invest and save, but do it smart. Matt. 18 tells us to 'lay up our treasures in HEAVEN.' Here is the point, if a man works hard all his life to build up his investments but then dies-- and has nothing good toward Lord, or has no belief nor obligation or respect of Jesus Christ and then dies suddenly-- it's all for nothing. He is instantly in 'eternal hot water' because he didn't have his PRIORITIES RIGHT. |He is an 'unbeliever' or a fake, or one who has heard the Word of God, but then abandoned it for worldy riches.


And then in the same Chapter 119:18, "The Lord hath chastened me sore: but He hath not given me over unto death." KJV. The cross reference to this is 1 Corinthians 11: 32, which says, "But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord so that we will NOT be condemned along with the world." Meaning-- it's much better to be trained and disciplined [this can and does include getting a good whipping from the Lord-- as a loving father would so instruct his kids not to go down the wrong path...of death'] now in this earthly life by a loving Lord instead of being 'toast' in the next world... Go figure, what is an earthly life of being poor and weary for 70-90 years compared to being in an eternal state of high thirst for the rest of time?? That should be a no-brainer, yet we already KNOW that the bible says MOST of humankind will be headed down the 'wide and spacious road to destruction', and that includes a large portion of people who 'faithfully attend some church!' Read Matt. 18.


Actually, scripture says that we Christians are temporary aliens on earth but citizens of heaven! We don't quite fit in with all the merry making, godless, lawlesss, abortion promoting people who support those super Left Liberal 'kings and princes'.. lol. How do we see ourselves in the mirror? Do we LOOK LIKE THE WORLD, dress like the world, talk and act like the worldly folks?? I know I still have a long way to go but I am going to keep on fighting the devil until the Lord comes back to liberate me. Remember, Satan is stirring up such a terrible mess now on earth because he knows his time in short. I will bet a big chunk of change that nest year, 2009, will be ten times worse then this year. Rejoice and praise God for what you have now and remember it when you have less or nothing latter. If possible, help your bothers and sisters in the Lord.

Gulf war syndrome finally recognized as a 'real' disease

It's a little late for Veteran's Day, but I wanted to pass on this bit of good news for some of the soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines that served in the first Gulf War back in 1991: a recently released congressionally mandated report has concluded – finally – that Gulf War Syndrome (GWS) is a legitimate medical condition.

As many as 175,000 veterans of the Gulf War reported suffering from this GWS, a hard- to-pin-down ailment that's been associated with a wide range of maladies, from neurological issues, to birth defects, brain cancer, and even multiple sclerosis.

Because of the various and indeterminate source of these issues, many veterans had difficulty getting treatment for their issues, and their claims of illness were called into question by doctors and insurance companies. The new study is the first to rule that GWS is a real disorder.

The Research Advisory Committee on Gulf War Veterans' Illnesses determined that the ailment derives from exposure to chemical toxins during the war. The exact source of these toxins, however, is still in question. Possible causes include the anti-nerve gas drugs administered to troops, smoke from oil well fires started by Saddam Hussein's retreating troops, and exposure to destroyed stocks of Sarin nerve gas.

This news is a belated "welcome home" to the brave men and women who served in that conflict, and will hopefully redress the wrongs and shortcomings these vets received from the government and the healthcare system after their return.
