Better Eye Protection.

Tom's Journal.http://tomschuckmanjournal.blogspot.com/tschuckman@aol.com

Hi Friends,
I just called my Mom and told her about a 'new' eye protection product that my eye doctor gave me to relieve my blurry, fuzzy- wuzzy, tired eyes. I love to read and do about 3-4 hours of intense reading and research almost every day, and I like to touch base on Face Book, but my eyes get tired, dry and blurry. One eye doc years ago told me to use Visine-- as he did too, but my 'new' eye doc lady said NOT TO USE THAT PRODUCT -- as it was making my eye symptoms worse. The 'new' product is called: Soothe xp, and you cal buy it OTC at most drug stores/ pharmacies. She gave me a small sample, and another product called: Systane ultra... which I have not tried yet.

I just love to share the good things in my life with other good people I met, hoping that "cast your bread upon the water-- and it will return to you" verse will come true to me-- and of course it does. One way or another God's sees all our life and it is recorded. "Store up your treasures in heaven where moth and rust cannot consume." True-- we cannot 'buy' or work our way into heaven, but Christians ought to try hard to be "Christ-like" after they receive the Holy Spirit which will guide you with power and discernment.

I have so much going on in February, and my way of keeping track of appointments, etc., is my calendar, but many people now days use their Blackberry. I just read an article about the threat of major cyber attack by China, etc., and that could prove to be devastating! Better to get back to SOME
"low tech"/ survival ways of living.. 'Plan B and C' stuff. Just my opinion.

I had to wait at home for the 'Oxygen man' to come to my humble home and take away the used/ empty Oxygen bottles and replace them-- and he took away Sharon's Oxygen extractor because she is not expected to come home any more, as her health is too ragged with her lumbar spine crumbling, bad heart and lungs, etc. It kind of made me feel sorry and down-hearted when Mario took away Sharon's stuff to help her breath at home... But if i do bring her home sometimes for a whole day-- she can use my stuff/ oxygen bottles, etc., to breathe, and I always carry some in the truck too. Seems like there is always something to foul up my good, sunny, bright days [nasty old Satan too], and that is when we 'cling to our Bibles and faith in God Almighty [Jehovah] and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We may be dust in the wind-- but Jesus has made mansions for all BELIEVERS in heaven, and the Rapture is near! PTL.

So now my day is pretty much shot. I had hoped to travel to see Sharon again today and bring her what she requested... but then I would hit rush hour in the big city and it gets dark around 4:30PM these days. I found out that I have a low dose of cataracts of the eyes-- and on a scale of 1-10, the eye doc said I have number ONE. Shoot! The days of retirement and leisure are bunk for many of us, and some of my good friends are in bad financial straits right now too. But this is JUST THE BEGINNING, friends, and I would never brag if I had a little more than the neighbor or friends. Bible students KNOW about the future and much worse times while the Congress and the 'Chief' just goof around pretending that everything will somehow be alright....Ha! They are blinded by the devil, and waste time while 'Rome is burning'... some things just never change. "But you can be happy if you've a mind to.." "You can't roller skate in a buffalo herd."

Auschwitz.

Tom's Journal.http://tomschuckmanjournal.blogspot.com/tschuckman@aol.com

The Only Surviving Album of Auschwitz

This is the story of a Hungarian Jewish woman who survived Auschwitz and found a coat belonging to a guard which she took to shield her from the cold immediately after her liberation. In the pocket of this coat she found a photo album. It contained pictures of what went on in this extermination camp. Imagine her reaction when she saw a picture of herself coming off of the train as well pictures of her family who were already murdered. This album at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem was donated by this woman in 1980 and will forever be displayed there. When you have 5 minutes of peace and quiet in front of your computer, watch it and consider passing it around to people that you know so they can share it and know about it. It is truly moving

Far be it from me, jolly, old Tom, the happy Veteran, to throw a wet towel on friends and readers--- but the Truth is the Truth. Check it out for yourselves, please. In these last days-- many will be misled, and many will chose to remain IGNORANT! Sorry, but that the way I read them.

Happy Monday, the 14th of February, the month my Mom and I were born in... Brrrr!
Everyone loves a winner-- and I love the Green Bay Packers.

Can a Believer have Doubts?

Tom's Journal.http://tomschuckmanjournal.blogspot.com/tschuckman@aol.com

Today wasn't too bad but I decided to just rest up at home for a while--Saturday, so I might have some energy to get up early on Sunday. I just don't know/ understand why my muscles and joints hurt so bad most of the time-- and my meds ought to be sufficient to take care of the pain, and I don't believe I have a cold or Flu. Could it be the antibiotics the VA wants me to take for any post-op infection?? And then, I could figure it out if just the bad, replaced knee just hurt-- but it's the whole body. Maybe I am doing too much house work and traveling/ chores and shopping on my own-- but then, I don't have any 'support group' in this one horse town-- never did, except for the church shoveling my snow... PTL, and they are a true blessing in that regard. Thank you, friends! I would be lost without my email and FB, etc.

It's kind of funny how my Mom and I send each other gifts of money for special occasions, like: She sent me a fifty dollar bill for an 'early birthday gift', and then I recently sent her a $50 bill for her 'early birthday gift, both in Feb... lol. For some reason she sent me another birthday card with $25, so I thought I would bring over a special Yugoslavian bottle of 'plum juice' and a cheese cake-- but since I could not reach her by phone to see if she would be there at home today-- I just stayed home and enjoyed the dog's company. Everyone seems to be so busy now days! I got the new "brain box"/ computer installed into my truck, but then got a repair estimate from the repair shop-- because a punk who backed his boss's company cargo van into the back of my truck last week-- over $1000, and it will take 3 days work to fix it next week!! I am glad that I did call the cops on that goofy guy who refused to give me his driver's license card and name! I was not even there at the time-- but was visiting my wife at her nursing home. Sometimes you just got to wonder if there was both a mommy and daddy at home training him while he was growing up-- and that is one of the good benefits of marriage-- to raise a child PROPERLY! BTW, who wants to pay for other peoples' abortions with our taxes-- thanks to the many lies of Planned Parenthood-- and their back room butcher shops ?? Hey! Your Congressmen needs to hear from you! Hello! But if you voted for Mr. Obama-- that's OK... you got what you wanted. those folks can't read the Bible either.... sorry. 2+2=4. God's Pro-Life!

The statement: 'Once Saved-- always Saved' is explained down below in a short article, and things like this always make me smile inside and reassure me that the very BEST policy is to cling closely to the Lord and the BIBLE. I keep pounding my drum... that, 'If we don't put money in the checking account-- how in the world can we continue to write out checks or use our debit card !! [The same goes for our own Gov't... lol]. Sooner or later we are going to get caught flat footed, and in deep trouble, friends. A 'man's heart will be where his riches/ treasures are.' I keep saying that a Christian can still have a great time on earth for the most part if he obeys God and studies his Bible-- but just try to "walk on the wild side of Satan" and you might get away with it for a while... but it's like playing the slot machines at some Casino. The Casino has your number-- and they are there to make a profit-- and a fool out of YOU! I know a fine, hard working lady who has a gambling problem and now she is 3 months behind on her mortgage payments. I guess I just love the simple logic of things, and I like to share them with others whom I feel have a good chance of surviving.

Sharon had a rough time of it with her low BP and trouble breathing all week, up and down, but says that she feels better today. I will see her tomorrow again. If only she could learn to keep her cell phone with her, and charge it up before she goes to sleep at night....

Warm Regards,
Tom

Can A Believer Have Doubts?

Q. I read recently that a true believer can not ‘lose’ their faith or have doubts; that if they did they couldn’t possibly have been saved in the first place, for the Holy Spirit would not allow such a thing.

A. True believers cannot lose their faith because it’s a gift from God (Ephes. 2:8-9). At the moment of salvation He assumes responsibility for keeping us and seals the Holy Spirit inside us to guarantee our salvation (2 Cor 1:21-22). Remember, it’s the shepherd’s job to keep the sheep.

But it’s natural for us to have doubts, because the devil plants them in our minds, just like he did with Eve. (“Did God really say …?”) The Holy Spirit counsels us to believe God and resist the devil but cannot control our thoughts. It’s our job to recall God’s promises and use them to repel the enemy’s attack. (2 Cor 10:3-5) It’s one of the reasons that knowing the Scripture is so important.

Total Knee Replacement: Photos

What is a "knee replacement"?

Sometimes also called "resurfacing", this operation involves the removal of the damaged, worn ends of the thigh (femur), and leg (tibia) bones that make up the knee joint, as well as the back of the kneecap (patella). The bone ends are precisely reshaped and recapped with metal surfaces, with special plastic liners added as a bearing surface that promotes low friction gliding between metal and plastic.

How is it done?

Basically, this resurfacing project is stepwise precision carpentry. After an incision is made, the surgeons remove the damaged portions and surfaces of the bones using guides or jigs, and oscillating saws. Precise amounts of bone are removed, usually between 2 and 12 mm. The ends of the bones are shaped to accommodate the prosthesis to be used. Trial, or test prosthetic components are then used to evaluate the fit, range of motion, stability, alignment, and balance of the soft tissues. When all is satisfactory, the final prosthetic components are cemented into place, and the surgical wound is closed.

Current trends: smaller incisions and computer-assisted, "navigated" knee replacement surgery...

How large is the incision?

The photos below show a somewhat larger than normal exposure, in order to show the component parts. In other words, the incision shown is longer than what is typically used. The smallest incision possible, yet practical, is ideal. The incision must be big enough for the surgeons to be able to see what they are doing. The current trends are for smaller incisions, to reduce scarring, stiffness, and weakness, and to allow a faster recovery.

How is a computer helpful?

When knee replacements were first done, bone cuts were made by eye. Next came guides and jigs, placed on or in the bones to more precisely define the cuts. Now, computers, or navigation systems are used to assists with the placement of the cutting guides, for even more precision. The computers rely on the input of landmark mapping data done with an electronic stylus to create a 3D program of the limb. The theory is that a more precise set of bone cuts may facilitate better replacement component alignment, and hopefully, enhance the longevity of the replacement. This theory is not yet proven, but is intuitive. This photo shows the computer camera system and video monitor used during the procedure.

Left knee incision during knee exposure and with knee extended (straight) shows wear behind patella (reflected backward on the right) and in trochlear femoral groove (in center of the photo).

Further exposure with knee flexed (bent) shows a very common wear pattern on the medial (inner) condyle (knuckle) of the femur with complete loss of surface cartilage adjacent to tip of retractor. The patella (right side, still flipped), has been prepared for placement of a plastic prosthesis (see below), as the worn cartilage has been resected, and anchor holes have been drilled.

Left knee: making surface bone cuts with oscillating saw from above, removing damaged bone from the femur, using a cutting guide. The soft tissues are carefully protected with retractors.

Left knee: a cutting guide is prepared for removing damaged bone from the top of the tibia. The saw will be used through the slot near the top and front of the guide. The long guide with T-handle above goes down the length of the tibia to help establish satisfactory alignment for a precise cut.

Left knee in extension: the final prosthesis in place. The round white plastic disk is the back of the flipped patella, the silver component caps the lower end of the femur, and the white tray below the femur is the combined plastic-metal component on the upper end of the tibia. All components have been cemented with a very thin layer bone cement.

Left knee flexed: after complete resurfacing "total knee replacement". The wound is closed, and rehabilitation can begin.

The Muslim Brotherhood.

Tom's Journal.http://tomschuckmanjournal.blogspot.com/tschuckman@aol.com

Have some of you good people ever had nightmares about being on a nasty, up hill tread mill-- not able to get off --Ha! ?? Well, that's a good synopsis of the AMC/ Chrysler assembly line... lol. Just kidding... Except I know for a fact that there were times that men and women had to use the rest rooms really bad and the boss just jerked them around. But if the women were 'good looking' it seemed as though they got special treatment... Sorry, but that IS the truth, and I have seen it many times in many companies.

Some of us have legitimate fears/ phobias of having one thing after another pile down on us, like: bad things come in 3's-- but that may just be an 'old wives tale.' And the Bible even mentions that term/ phrase: "Old wives' tales." And then, there are days that even when you try hard to control your every step and action-- but you continue to run into "stone walls" and 'chase your own tail, and it seems like everything is against you!' I think that smart and skilled people have LESS misfortunes in life-- but that doesn't mean they never learned at the 'school of hard knocks.' So it's good not to brag too much, IMO [in my opinion], because adversity and death befall us all, eventually.

I took the dog, Deuce, the Rottweiler, to see/ visit Sharon today, as she requested, and most of the nursing home staff and patients love to see and touch out noble beast-- and he is good with people-- and a gentle, trained, 'Service Animal.' I want to get him registered as a "Therapy Animal" and take him to the VA hospitals, and nursing homes etc. to cheer people up-- and then share the Gospel and a small Bible tract with them about the salvation of Jesus Christ.
Well, today, after I brought some requested Granny Smith apples to my wife on the 2nd floor at Woodstock nursing home in Kenosha, WI., I steered my power scooter and the dog out to the North parking lot to find a young guy telling me that he was sorry for backing into my 2007 Ram truck and breaking the Right rear tail light and also damaging the metal on the Right side. He [Josh V] seemed very nervous and kept apologizing so that I told him not to worry several times -- that it was not a super bad thing, and I even thanked him for 'manning up' to take responsibility and staying at the scene. But he was reluctant to give me his name, number and driver's license! After he kept feeding me lame excuses and refused to give his proper name and info, I climbed into my truck and said, "OK", and called the police, because I have been jerked around before and got stung by some young people-- so that I ended up paying for damages that were NOT MY FAULT! Josh worked for a towing truck company and his boss did finally come and was very cordial -- but I had already called the cops, and we worked things out, and I finally left to go home. But the whole thing ate up my time, and now I have to get the truck repaired! Now I have to bother someone to drop off my truck for what ever length of days it will take to get fixed-- and be without my power scooter!

I thought I handled myself well, and even witnessed to the guy's boss and gave him a Bible tract-- and left him with a hand shake and a good feeling! They wanted me to go to their 'selected body shop' where they had some deal and did business... and said that THEY would pay the whole bill-- and I might have done just that had it not been for young Josh not co-operating with me on the pure basics of good manners in giving me the legal information! Oh well.... I told the boss that the kid needs more driving lessons by going to a vacant lot and practicing his back up skills and learning to use his two mirrors better. I was young once too.. lol.

When I was up with Sharon, a RN walked into our room and explained that Sharon had Bronchitis! With her system being so stressed out with constant coughing, and compromised with Sarcoidosis with only 30% of her lungs working--bad heart and COPD, etc., we were shocked that she didn't get that important info BEFORE! Sharon is in bad shape but doesn't want to go back to the KMH hospital-- but I said that she must to survive, and so the RN made arraignments to see the doctor much sooner. I am not crazy about the 'nonchalant' way the staff takes care of my loved one! And then she found out that her patient neighbor across the hall was taken to the hospital--just about to die-- and that made Sharon very depressed. As I have explained many times, it's so important to have a loved one with the patient as a 'PATIENT ADVOCATE' to deal with problems that the patient is too sick to handle!! I only WISH that I had someone like that in MY corner while in the mean spirited Milwaukee VAMC when I had my total knee replacement surgery 2 months ago! Things could have been less stressful for me. And I am not done with those 'people' yet...

I shared a new Bible thought that I just learned about on Sunday morning before church on the INTERNET from 1st Corinthians 2:7 + 14 about the term Mysterian-- Greek word, and Sharon and I studied for a short time, prayed together, and I tried to encourage her-- AND the RN who was there later-- during my visit today. If something should happen to me, like I get killed on the way home, did I take every opportunity to share the Word of God and the salvation of the Gospel?? Did I set a good example? Did I have guts enough to hand someone a Bible tract or an inexpensive Bible? Why has God put me on earth and allowed me to continue living after intense combat in Vietnam: 68-70, and multiple accidents and near death episodes? If the good Lord uses Tom Schuckman as a tool, a hammer or a chisel-- I rejoice for that special honor and privilege !! THANK YOU, LORD!

I honestly don't know if I will ever see people again after our short encounters/ Bible discussions/ conversations, etc., -- but I do know that God has used me to advance His work by 'planting a tiny seed' in peoples' hearts and minds... and they won't have any excuse if they are 'left behind' after the Rapture. Friends and Readers, what ever 'gifts', powers, and 'tools' we have-- let us use them for the Lord's work. You say that you are not learned or schooled in the Bible? PICK UP THE BIBLE-- THE BOOK, AND START READING IT !! Confess your sins to the heavenly Father, accept the Son, Jesus Christ, as your personal Savior and do His will. Check out this fine web site to get a pure, understandable Bible for low cost at: biblefortoday.org
'Happiness is a BI-PRODUCT of serving God.'

If you don't get started now/ today... then when?
Before you start reading and studying the Bible, ask for the Holy Spirit to help you understand the scriptures, but only in humility to serve the Lord -- not to boast or show off your knowledge to others.

Thank you for your continued prayers. I know that I will need a lot of extra strength if things with my beloved wife go 'South' ... and no one lives forever. And with our many aches and pains, I know of many Christian who would GLADLY love for God to "call them home to heaven.. NOW!" For the most part-- I know that I will have to 'go it alone' as I don't have many able friends here where I love... most are old and infirm. I still wonder if it was a smart thing to have surgery without a real support group...
Now that the football season is over, and the 'best team from Wisconsin won' ..lol, we can get back to more important things that 'lay up more precious treasures in heaven, where moth and rust cannot consume.' I am still worried about any infection in my knee-- and the VA only got on that subject a whole 2 months AFTER my knee surgery. And if I need to have more work/ surgery done on my knees or what ever, it won't be the Milwaukee VA who does it ! PTL. Telling the absolute TRUTH, as I see it, is very important to me.

Warm Regards,
Tom Schuckman
