The Secrets of getting Old.... a nice song and experience, important to know and remember. One of the Deacons at church, a fine, warm brother named Joe Belanger, is helping me deal with the worry and sadness of my wife's down ward plunge of health in the hospital again. Precious friends like him and all my Christian on-line friends, believers, and others, are worth their weight in GOLD! Granted, Bro. Joe, couldn't tell me anything new that I didn't already know--but his friendship, time and effort was well received as an encouragement. He told me that I must break out from my sadness and despair, and regularly spend time with people at church.
The scriptural reasoning is from Hebrews 10:24-25, "And let us consider one another for provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." That means: TRY TO FIND A BIBLE TEACHING CHURCH NEAR YOU AND ATTEND IT REGULARLY !
The Proverbs bare out that a true [believer] friend is worth more than a fleshly brother who is not. OK... friends are used by God to help people in need, etc., and that is so fine. But we must learn to accept the responsibility of depending on God and the Holy Spirit when we are alone without any human help! We charge up our 'batteries' by intense Bible study, Prayer, and association with brothers and sisters of kindred spirit-- fellow believers of the Bible and God. But caution/ Beware: Not ALL churches teach to true thrust of the Bible- God's Word! WE have to rely on our Spirit and Bible trained mind and heart-- so as to discern if a church has the Spirit anointed leaders/ pastors, who teach ONLY the pure truth, and NOT their own private personal ambitions, opinions, made up rules!! I have been to many churches where the head pastor was more interested in promoting his own wayward beliefs and opinions. And many churches make up a goofy set of rules that are NOT bible based. Let the Bible be your guild all the time, and you will steer clear of LEGALISM.
I tried to call my wife in the hospital a few times this morning, but she doesn't answer her cell phone. The hoist in my truck that hauls my power scooter in and out is broke--somewhat, so that I worry now about my own mobility. When it rains-- it pours.
Have a great day!
Tom
