The subject of Damascus-- the oldest 'inhabited city' of all time, has always interested me. And here is where precise, studied English comes in... of how the Bible is written, and translated, that intelligent, searching people can just dig a little bit and unlock the so-called "mysteries" and find the answers that other lazy folks miss all the time.
Scripture says that the city will become a heap of rubble. And what type of ordinance could/ would do just that? Most of us think: Nukes. You know, storing up all those mean weapons, some from Iraq, are a big liability if they were ignited/ exploded, by whom ever, but prob Israel -- in self defense. And the Middle East is a hair trigger bomb that could go off at ANY time now! As an old soldier, this makes me giddy with expectation, but as a Christian, it makes me very sober and attentive-- knowing that our time on earth if nearing the end-- and heaven is OUR home. Those who love, confess, and serve the Son, Jesus Christ.
Got to move fast to get to church now. Keep cool.

The Coming Destruction Of Damascus
Q. How do you think Damascus will be destroyed and when? Prior to Daniel’s 70 week? And will it be by a nuke from Israel or will 100 to 300 metric tons of biological and chemical weapons stored in Syria contaminate their own city?
A. The Bible does not state this specifically, but I believe Isaiah 17, the destruction of Damascus, will be fulfilled before Daniel’s 70th Week begins. I say this because I believe the battle of Ezekiel 38 ushers in Daniel’s 70th Week and there’s no mention of Syria participating in that battle. Since Syria has been such a prominent adversary of Israel I’ve concluded the reason for the omission is that Damascus will have already been destroyed.
As for how this destruction will take place, the Bible is similarly unspecific. All it says is that Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins (Isaiah 17:1). Recently there’s been some speculation that Israel will level the city in the process of destroying Syria’s stockpile of biological and chemical weapons to prevent them from falling into the hands of terrorists. Unless these weapons are randomly scattered in storage facilities throughout Damascus that seems a bit far fetched to me. Israel has very precise demolition capabilities and would not wipe out such a large civilian population center without extreme provocation. Also I think Isaiah 17 hints that Israel’s actions will be retaliatory, not preemptive.
